November 4th-9th, 2017: The Eighth Global Social Business Summit (GSBS) 2017 in Paris

GSBS2017 took place in Paris for six days from November 4th.

Opening remarks were made by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

This annual event was organized by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and his Creative Advisor Hans Reitz, and gathers experts from the private sector, civil society, governments and academia over a few days of meetings, forums and workshops.


For the 8th edition of the GSBS, the focus was on the generational challenges of plastic pollution, food and its value, refugee solidarity, social business and the role of cities as well as the Olympic Games and the role of health.

The GSBS main event took place under a big tent at the international university campus in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. A stage and tables were created from recyclable materials and plastic material were not used for tableware. Catering services were provided by one of the social businesses who hire and train refugees. All the participants were encouraged to check the agenda on the website so that paper distribution was reduced. In addition, they try not to waste any materials and to be sustainable for holding the Olympics and Para-Olympic Games of 2024 in Paris.

SBRC made a report at the Social Business Academia Conference. The winners of the 2016 and 2017 YY Contest made a presentation on their business plans at the Young Challengers Meeting and awarded at the summit.

During the summit, Manager of SBRC Director/Executive Vice President, Dr Masato WAKAYAMA at Kyushu university had a meeting with Professor Yunus.

It was enthusiastically announced by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalg’s, that the annual GSBS would be held in Paris until 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic games take place.
