About SBRC(Social Business Research Center)

Mission

The mission of the SBRC is to study and promote social businesses, especially to build sustainable and developed social systems and to help with the incubation of social business start-ups. The SBRC also establishes social business models aimed at solving global issues (poverty, health, environment, energy, education, natural disasters, etc.) by way of contracted ventures or joint research with related organizations in Japan and overseas.

In accordance with the joint declaration of the Social Business Hub in Asia in July 2010, the Executive Committee of Social Business Forums Asia (SBFA) in Fukuoka, composed of GCL@KyushuUniversity, Fukuoka City and local corporations, is created.
SBFA2011 Preliminary Workshop 1 in Fukuoka (Hosted by GCL@KyushuUniversity)
A number of projects to support a self-reliant recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake are presented.

Lectures, discussion sessions with young people and women’s meetings are held in various locations, including Tokyo, Oita and Fukuoka (Hosted by GCL@Kyushu University)
GCL@KyushuUniversity and Fukuoka City announce the declaration of Social Business City.

General incorporated foundation Grameen Technology Lab (GTL) is established.

2009

September
A special lecture from Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Fukuoka Prize Winner, is held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fukuoka Prize. (At Tsukushi Kaikan, co-hosted by the Fukuoka Prize Committee and Kyushu University)
Panel discussion with Prof. Yunus and students at Ito Campus of Kyushu University (Hosted by Kyushu University)
An MOU is signed between Kyushu University and Yunus Centre (Bangladesh) for the establishment of Grameen Creative Lab (GCL)@KyushuUniversity.
An MOU is signed between Kyushu University, Yunus Centre (Bangladesh) and NTT, Japan for the establishment of Grameen Technology Lab (GTL).

A contract is signed between Kyushu University and Grameen Communications (Bangladesh) to carry out collaborative research on an “Efficient Solar System.”

2007

An exchange agreement is signed with Grameen Communications (Bangladesh) regarding the digitization of Microcredit.
