Human Harbor Fukuoka offers a comprehensive social rehabilitation program for people released from prisons by giving them an opportunity to partake in a sustainable industrial recycling business aimed at overcoming the three major obstacles they face in society: accommodation, education, and employment.
The earnings of the company were 430-million-yen last year. The company aims to help give opportunities to former inmates. The minister spoke with the owner, Isao Fukushima, a manager of the Education section, and employees in the program along with a facility tour over an hour.
Human Harbor Fukuoka is the first Yunus Social Business company in Japan. Their efforts have had a great effect on “the government’s five-year program for the prevention of repeat offenses” adopted at the cabinet meeting on December 15th, 2017.
