MOU between SBRC at Kyushu University and NTT WEST signaling “Industry-University Cooperation for the Development of Social Business Solutions”

Kyushu University has concluded the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with NTT WEST signaling an industry-university cooperation to develop social business solutions for social issues. In order to develop research projects relating to social business, both parties agree to build a partnership between industry and academia to make contributions to solve social issues.

1. Background for the MOU
Kyushu University founded Yunus & Shiiki Social Business Research Center (SBRC) in 2011. The SBRC has been studying and promoting social businesses advocated by Professor Yunus (2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate), especially to build sustainable and developed social systems and to help with the incubation of social business start-ups.
On the other hand, NTT WEST tries to make contributions to create an affluent society through their product, Smart Hikari Solution, by ICT which solves social issues. They also promote alliances with various business partners and open innovation.
Kyushu University and NTT WEST concluded a MOU to make further contributions for social issue solutions by developing the industry-university cooperation in order to promote new business creations that both parties create.

2.Summary of Cooperation
Both parties agree to cooperatively promote social business endeavors and develop new business creation through discovering partners that are attempting to solve social problems. Both parties have agreed to make decisions through discussions on the content and implementation methods.

<Cooperation on social business contests and events>

1) to host panel discussions on events such as Startup Factory(※1), Social Business Forum Asia (SBFA)(※2), in addition to co-hosting contests to make new business discoveries

2) to co-host workshops and lectures for the incubation of corporations

1 Startup Factory
This program aims to solve social issues in collaboration with NTT and cooperation with venture companies and other companies that develop new technologies and products. 

2 Social Business Forum Asia (SBFA)
The forum aims to spread awareness of the movement of Social Business defined by Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, starting from Fukuoka city, the first Social Business City in Asia. The forum is open not only to academics across the world, but also to companies and the public who have interest in Social Business.
